AmeriCorps Program

Full time State & National AmeriCorps members are expected to complete 1700 hours with their agency over the course of 11 months. VISTA members do not have an hours requirement, and will complete their service over the course of 12 months. Click here for part-time stipend/hour options. 

Upon completion of service, members will receive the Segal Education Award, equal to $7,395 for the 23-24 grant year. You can find out more information about the Segal Education Award here. 

State & National members get hands-on experience working with families, adults, youth, and learners of all ages to promote economic mobility and community. VISTA members build capacity of MOBC to ensure our programs operate efficiently, promote collaboration among departments, and increase our organization's reach.

All of our members will serve at sites throughout East Nashville, either at our main center, or in schools throughout the community. AmeriCorps is a year of service, where members earn a living allowance. AmeriCorps State & National members earn $19,100 over the course of their term, and VISTA members earn $22,882 over the course of their term. In addition, both VISTA members and State & National members receive an additional $500/month for a housing allowance.

A note from our
​Director of Service Learning

Hi! I'm Mary Sellers Shaw, the Director of Service Learning at the Martha O'Bryan Center. I am originally from Birmingham, AL and moved to Nashville for my own service year. I then was a part-time AmeriCorps member my first year of grad school. I met some of my best friends during my service years and developed skills and interests that shaped my career path. I began working at MOBC in spring 2024!

I'm passionate about building community and connection among our AmeriCorps members. I believe in fostering a sense of community care among members and helping our cohort grow as individuals and as a team. As we say in our weekly meetings- we are learning every day!
