Job Description:
The MOBC youth development program for elementary and middle school students is designed to support the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. In addition to this support, students develop their interests and passion through the arts, recreation, and experiential learning opportunities in Nashville and beyond.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Hours: 100 hours over the course of service
Stipend: $1120 living allowance (paid out twice monthly over the course of service); $416 education award upon successful completion of hours

- Engage with students in outside activities and physical education

MOBC’s Adult Education program prepares adult students for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) through classroom teaching, one-on-one tutoring, and online self-study support. The Adult Education Empowerment Specialist supports adult students in achieving education and employment goals.

- Assist Adult Education Instructors with curriculum implementation, focusing on literacy, numeracy, adult basic education, and HiSET preparation (Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Writing)
- Communicate with students working remotely online on their HiSET preparation with the goal to motivate, re-engage, and offer academic support through video-conferencing tools including but not limited to Zoom or Google Meets
- Monitor and report learning progress to Adult Education Instructors

The goal of the Food Security program is to empower health families and individuals, many of whom live in “food deserts,” by providing healthy food, nutrition education, and emergency assistance as an integrated part of family resources provided by the center.

- Assist the Food Security Coordinator with operating the Food Bank, which includes stocking, building relationships with Food Bank patrons, and volunteer engagement
- Collaborate with other AmeriCorps members at MOBC to promote healthy eating and nutrition through monthly cooking classes
- Work with Food Security Coordinator to create and implement a sustainable system of supply chain management for more efficient ordering and distribution of food in the food bank
- Develop new partnerships with local farmers, CSA’s, farmer’s markets, and other food justice organizations to increase the capacity of the Food Security program to serve the community
- Conduct site visits to other emergency food banks in Nashville to understand processes and increase efficiency at MOBC’s Food Bank
